KJ Stands Second at Reading Qualifying Midpoint
Five days after scoring their third win of the season in Brainerd, MN, Kurt Johnson and the ACDelco Cobalt Racing team returned to the track in Reading, PA, taking part in the first day of qualifying at the Toyo Tires Nationals. Despite having to deal with atmospheric and track conditions completely unlike last week, they continued to be among the very best among the 23 Pro Stock cars attempting to qualify.
After opening with a solid 6.675-second, 207.85 mph, KJ picked up the pace in the evening session, recording the quickest time of the day in the right hand lane at 6.646-seconds with a top speed of 207.82 mph to claim the second position midway through the qualifying procedure.
"It wasn't a bad first day for the ACDelco Cobalt crew. Although neither run was perfect, we were able to get from A to B both times, improving upon our previous attempt. Basically, we're using the same approach we used last week in Brainerd, taking what we learned from the first run and fine-tuning the set-up from there. We're only seven thousandths off the top spot, so we'll look at the information from tonight and see what we need to do to make a better run tomorrow morning."
