Rain Washes Out NHRA Reading Race
A storm front that moved into the Reading area on Sunday morning brought rain which halted final eliminations of the Toyo Tires NHRA Nationals shortly after the start of the first round, eventually forcing the event to be postponed. Although the forecast for tomorrow is equally uncertain, officials hope to resume racing at 10 a.m. tomorrow.
This race has particular significance for Warren Johnson and the GM Performance Parts GTO Racing team, who enter eliminations looking to lock in their position in the second round of the Countdown to the Championship. As such, he was quite philosophical about having to wait an additional day.
"Although we certainly would have preferred to complete today's race as scheduled, there's nothing any of us can do about the weather. Whenever the skies clear and the track is dry, we'll have our GM Performance Parts GTO in the lanes, ready to go to work.
"Unfortunately, the people that are affected the most by this postponement are those who truly matter -- the fans, many of whom will not be able to return. We know a lot of them make plans to attend our races, and it's a shame we're not able to give them the show they deserve. Hopefully, some of them will be able to take an extra day off from work and join us tomorrow when we try to put this one to bed."
