WJ Makes the Most of His Single Shot, Starts Seventh in Seattle

Qualifying for the Schuck's Auto Supply Nationals came down to a single attempt after rain washed out both of Friday's runs and curtailed Saturday's action to the solitary afternoon session. Realizing when he rolled to the line that his first run might be his only opportunity to earn a starting position, Warren Johnson, responded to the challenge, powering his GM Performance Parts GTO through the quarter-mile in 6.689 seconds at 206.26 mph to claim the seventh spot on Sunday's final eliminations ladder.

"We left a little bit on the table, but I'm sure everyone else was in the same boat, so we're not about to complain. It was a decent run, and we know how to fix our GM Performance Parts GTO to make it even better, so if the track doesn't turn completely to buttermilk, we should be in good shape whenever we finally race.

"As of right now, we're waiting to see what Mother Nature wants to do with us. With such an uncertain forecast, we have no idea what the track temperatures are going to be, what the atmospheric conditions will be, or if there will even be any rubber left on the track, so whenever the monsoons leave, we'll go out, take stock of what we have and go from there."
