TOPEKA, Kan. - Sometimes you hit the nail on the head and then again, sometimes you miss it miserable. Unfortunately for the Bruce Litton, the Wix Filters-sponsored Top Fuel driver from Indianapolis, it turned out to be the latter.
All is not lost, however. The veteran enclosed trailer dealer was testing a new clutch combination in his only qualifying run thus far at the 13th annual Advance Auto Parts Nationals and still has two more shots to get into the sixteen car field. He elected not to run the second session to conserve parts and the fact that there are only sixteen entries in attendance.
His first and only attempt during Friday's qualifications was opposite Clay Millican, a fellow competitor on the IHRA tour. Immediately off of the line, Litton went up in smoke and coasted to an 11.465.
He currently resides in the 15th spot in the program.
"We tried a new clutch combination and I think it's safe to say that the car didn't like it," Litton explained. "We're going to go in another direction during Saturday's show and hopefully we'll end up on a more positive note. We are fortunate to be able to test new things during this event and we'll keep on trying new stuff until we get it right."
