FRAM Boost Dragster Post 4.602-second Elapsed Tim
The heat and humidity at Heartland Park Topeka threw a slow curve ball at the NHRA Top Fuel field Friday in the opening round of qualifying for Sunday's O'Reilly Summer Nationals, but it didn't prevent Cory McClenathan from grabbing the No. 2 position.
He'll be attempting to hang onto it Saturday in the final two runs. He drove the Carrier Boyz FRAM Boost dragster to a best of 4.60 seconds at 316.30 mph in the cooler night air.
"The moved around a little on the run and I got it back in the groove," McClenathan said. "I was happy with the numbers and it was good to be back in the big, bad black and orange colors this week."
He finished second last weekend Columbus, Ohio, driving a special yellow and black JEG's Mail Order/Prestone car.
"Wes (Cerny, crew chief) and Tony (Shortall, assistant crew chief) did a good job with the car. It just keeps going down the track."
McClenathan opened the day with a 4.754 at 287.96 mph.
