Kalitta, Pedregon, Allen, and Jetter Lead Qualifying TOPEKA, Kan. - SUMMIT FastNews - TOPEKA, Kan. -- Doug Kalitta, Cruz Pedregon, Bruce Allen and Brad Jeter were the leaders following qualifying Friday at the 10th annual Parts America Nationals at Heartland Park Topeka.
The $1.8 million race is the 18th of 22 events in the $30-million NHRA Winston Drag Racing Series.
Persistent rain showers forced NHRA officials to cancel Friday's evening qualifying session.
Ann Arbor, Mich.'s Kalitta drove his International Airways dragster to the No. 1 position in Top Fuel, covering the quarter-mile distance in a track record elapsed time of 4.561 seconds at 315.78 mph.
Pedregon, from Moorpark, Calif., led the Funny Car order in his Interstate Batteries Pontiac Firebird, running 4.941 at 293.82.
Arlington, Texas' Allen was tops in Pro Stock, running 6.993 at 195.48 in his Outlaw Additives Pontiac Firebird.
Jeter, of Greenville, S.C., will lead the Pro Stock Truck field into eliminations Saturday. Jeter, driving his Jeter Racing Chevrolet S-10, ran 7.719 at 174.41 to earn his first career No. 1 qualifying position.
Qualifying continues Saturday with sessions at 12:30 p.m. and 4 p.m. Pro Stock Truck eliminations begin at noon.
