Justin Humphreys Slows and Allen Johnson Gets Win

Justin Humphreys fell victim to Jason Line and a hurt motor during Sunday's first round of the O'Reilly Summer Nationals at Heartland Park Topeka.

"We kept going slower (during qualifying) and we didn't have lane choice," said Humphreys following the run. "And we were running Allen Johnson, who is on his game."

Humphreys, who marched to the semifinals at St. Louis last month, did his best. He left the line first, .040 to .045-second, but it didn't take long for Johnson to move away. Humphreys finished in 6.809 seconds at 203.00 mph to Johnson's 6.726 at 205. 47.

"Still, it was good to be racing on Sunday," added the driver of the Knoll-Gas Energy Pontiac GTO. "We have two new motors that we'll be testing at St. Louis Wednesday on our way to Chicago (Joliet, Ill.) for next week's race."
