Makela does the double at Croft
Valle Makela took another dominant race win in round four of the UK Formula Ford Championship at Croft in North Yorkshire this afternoon (May 2). The win puts the Finn firmly at the head of the points after just four races into the 2004 season.
Makela managed to keep the lead from pole position at the start of the race, despite suffering from wheel-spin. Daniel Clarke stayed in touch with him for the opening laps, before Makela began to stretch out a small lead.
Swedish racer Sebastian Hohenthal put Clarke under pressure for a handful of laps and looked set for third place. However, problems in the closing stages gave the place to American Charlie Kimball.
Charlie Donnelly and Indian driver, Suk Sandher, also managed to sneak past Hohenthal before he reached the chequered flag.
"I managed to keep everything tidy and look after my tyres," said Makela. "I didn't have to push too hard to stay ahead of the guys behind me. I put too many revs on at the start and got wheel-spin again and I need to try to cure that for the next race."
