Makela makes it win number two at Croft

Valle Makela took his second victory in the UK Formula Ford Championship with a commanding win in round three at Croft this afternoon (May 2).

The Finn lost his pole position advantage as the lights went green when he got too much wheel-spin. Daniel Clarke got a clean start and drove past into an early lead as the field headed for the first corner.

Makela put Clarke under pressure straight away and on lap four made a move up the inside at the hairpin and re-took the lead. A handful of quick laps then gave him a comfortable lead.

Clarke looked like he would take an easy second place. However, his team-mate, American Charlie Kimball, was on a charge after battling with Charlie Donnelly in the opening laps. Kimball caught Clarke with just two laps to go, but the Briton managed to defend his place to the chequered flag.

"I got too much wheel-spin at the start and Charlie just drove past me," said Makela. "After I managed to get back past I did three really quick laps to build up a lead and then just concentrated on keeping it. Hopefully I can do the same in the next race," he added.
