Brother of former F1 star signs up
Stefan Wilson, the younger brother of 1998 Formula Palmer Audi Champion Justin, has confirmed his participation in the 2007 FPA Championship.
The 17-year-old Yorkshireman, who made his car racing debut in the FPA Autumn Trophy late last year, is hoping to emulate his brother, who went on to race in Formula 1 and is now a top driver in the US-based ChampCar series.
"It's going to be a great season, and I think I'm going to get plenty of valuable experience," said Wilson, who will go up against some of Britain's best young racing talent in the 300bhp turbocharged single-seaters. "There's a lot of very competitive drivers lining up this year, but I think I've got the ability to take them on."
Wilson, is confident of being able to compete at the front of the field, especially having already got six FPA races, three of them top-six finishes, under his belt: "It's a great advantage already knowing what to expect from the car in race conditions, and I think I'll fare a lot better than I would if I went into 2007 cold."
Jonathan Palmer, FPA series boss, former F1 driver and manager of Justin Wilson, expressed his delight at Stefan's commitment to the championship: "Stefan is a very talented driver and I'm sure he can establish a second Wilson dynasty in FPA."
The 2007 FPA Championship takes in 20 races at eight UK circuits, including famous venues Brands Hatch, Oulton Park and Donington Park. The season kicks off at Silverstone on 7 April.
