FORMULA MASTER RACER BREAKS VALENCIA RECORD
Formula Master set a new record for 2.0 litre race cars today at the Circuit de la Comunitat Valenciana Ricardo Tormo in Valencia, Spain. 2008 Vice-Champion Fabio Leimer posted a fastest lap of 1:26.604, bettering last September's Spanish Formula 3 pole position set by Jaime Alguersuari (1:30.766) by more than four seconds.
With five Formula Master teams on track this week for a two-day test, Leimer led the timesheets throughout both days, posting the overall fastest lap this morning for Jenzer Motorsport.
The young Swiss was joined by Series' regulars Sergey Afanasiev and Vladimir Arabadzhiev for JD Motorsport as well as Tomas Pivoda for Iris Project. One-time 2008 race drivers Simon Trummer and Mihai Marinescu were also present for Iris Project and Pro Motorsport respectively, with Marinescu joining the test straight from Macau where he won the Formula BMW Pacific race on Sunday.
Five other drivers also took part in the test. Formula BMW's Tiago Geronimi acquitted himself well, posting the second fastest time yesterday with JD Motorsport, whilst Italian Pietro Gandolfi drove for Pro Motorsport.
Trident Racing continued its evaluation of Formula 3 South America driver Rodolpho Santos, following his first test with the team in Imola ten days ago, and ran Formula Renault Suisse Champion Christopher Zanella alongside him. 2008 Italian Formula Renault Champion Pal Varhaug also returned for Jenzer Motorsport.
