McQuarrie Clinches Formula Russell Championship
Two Drivers Go to England Third Seat Up for Grabs
Sonoma, CA - Tyler McQuarrie of Walnut Creek, CA claimed the 1998 USAC Formula Russell Championship with a win and second place finish during round 8 of the 9 event series at Sears Point Raceway. His record of 9 wins and 5 second place finishes in 16 races shows is dominance in this competitive formula car series earning the top prize of a free trip to England to compete in the Jim Russell World Scholarship in November.
"This has been a great season and I've learned a lot racing in this series," said McQuarrie after learning that he had captured the championship. "Jury and I had some great battles this year. Now that the championship has been decided, we can focus our attention on heading to England and show what we can do at the Scholarships."
McQuarrie should be a top contender at the World Scholarships for the top prize of a free season of racing in Europe in Formula Vauxhall Junior. Last year, he finished in the top 10 of the Formula Russell Championship qualifying to attempt the November event. He paid his own way to England to compete with two other drivers from Russell Racing. McQuarrie finished in the top five of the final round of judging.
Last year was an investment in being prepared for this opportunity. Since I know what to expect and I've driven the different cars and course configurations I think I have a good chance of winning this year.
Jury Swanson will also be attending this year's England competition, courtesy of Russell Racing. His five wins, three seconds and one third have given him a lock on runner up in the USAC series. Quote Jury.
While the top ten all qualify to attend the w.s. three driver's receive financial assistance from Russell. Third seat is still up for grabs. Dave McEntee currently in third with 146 has slight lead over Steve Hill with 120. McEntee's consistency and determination has kept him in the battle for the top five positions all season long. Hill has been extremely quick all year with x podium finishes and setting the track record on two different configurations
