Monza, 13 July 2001 - The FIA OPEN TELEFONICA Series are visiting the Monza Circuit this week-end where the FIFTH MEETING is going to he held
Today, Franck Montagny was extremely fast in both two free sessions, setting an impressive 1.44.983, and leaving Manuel Giao (Famá Motorsport), half a second behind.The former Italian F3000 Portuguese driver was lacking progress in the last two meetings, and he was happy to be in front with his Red Coloni/Nissan.
Paulo Alho, the young Portuguese that mates Giao in the same team, was sixth.
Andrea Belicchi (SITEC Motorsport), third classified in the OPEN TELEFONICA, is racing at home and his main objective is to defend this position from the Young Spaniard Adrián Campos Motorsport driver, Rafael Sarandeses, who set the fifth fastest lap.
The current leader of the Series, Tomas Scheckter (Vergani Racing), was feeling upset because of the lack of power in his engine. He was onlu fourth, almost one second behind Montagny. Worried? ^ÓNo, its something we have to see now with the Nissan boys but tomorrow everything will be Okay^Ô.
The Italian GD Racing Team, with Nicolás Filiberti in ninth position, is looking fordward to have some good results during this week-end. The Argentinian Filiberti knows the track well.
Tomorrow, the two Qualifying Sessions will be held, setting the path for the TWO RACES on SUNDAY.
