Capps 'Launches' Formula Car Career with a Win 2Capps wins first-ever race in the Skip Barber formula cars
LEXINGTON, Ohio (Aug.29) - NHRA funny car driver took full advantage of the pole position he had earned earlier in the day and drove to a near-seven second victory in his first-ever road race in the Skip Barber Regional Race Series event Saturday afternoon at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course.
Capps had lost the lead briefly on lap two -- he was outbraked in Turn Seven by second- starting Mike Distaulo, but grabbed the lead back two turns later -- and following a re-start after a short red-flag period, drove away from Distaulo, who would finish second. Mark Fee, Chris Weldon and Tom Brown rounded out the top five in the 12 lap race.
Capps is considering moving up a class (from Sportsman to Expert) for his second race today (Sunday), which should green-flag early in the afternoon.
The cars used in the Skip Barber series are identically prepared Formula Dodge R/T 2000 open wheelers, making 150 h.p. with a top speed of around 135 mph.
