Hill On Provisional Barber Dodge Pole MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (July 4, from Rick Roso) - With less than two minutes remaining in first qualifying, Derek Hill turned a lap nearly one-half second faster than anyone else to take the provisional pole for Sunday's 30-minute Barber Dodge Pro Series race at the Sprint PCS Grand Prix of Minnesota. "I knew there was a section where I could gain a lot of time," Hill said, "But I can't tell you where. All the other drivers go up on CompuServe and the Internet, and I don't want them to know. I'll tell you tomorrow." Points leader Rino Mastronardi was second fastest, followed by Chris Menninga, Nick Rondet and Martin Stenshorne, who was quickest in this mornin'g practice session.
Provisional starting grid following first qualifying for SCCA Pro Racing Barber Dodge Pro Series race at the Sprint PCS Grand Prix of Minnesota, Minneapolis, Minn. Qualifying position, driver, hometown or country, lap time and average miles per hour around 1.552-mile, 13-turn temporary street course. Final qualifying is Saturday afternoon. All cars identical Mondiale Barber Dodge V6 open-wheel, single-seat race cars.
