BARBER DODGE PRO SERIES:
GO, GOMEZ COLLEGE STATION, Texas (May 4) - After a frantic 20 minutes of drafting, slingshots and side-by-side, 10-car trains, Andres Felipe Gomez of Colombia took his first Barber Dodge Pro Series pole position to lead a full field of 28 drivers in qualifying for round three at Texas World Speedway. With the timing and scoring computer display showing a different fastest qualifier every few seconds, when it ended it was Gomez who had put up the fastest lap, just ahead of Jeff Bucknum and Nicolas Rondet. The first 23 drivers are covered by a little more than one second, with the entire field covered by 2.17 seconds. Rino Mastronardi, quickest in first qualifying on Friday, went faster today but is now fourth. A wholesale change of electronics in Memo Gidleys car solved an intermittent throttle cutoff problem he was suffering all weekend and will start fifth. Points leader Tony Renna is 16th, Sebring winner Tim Moser sixth, St. Petersburg winner Mauro Fartuszek 20th and Geoff Boss 21st, the only driver who did not pick up time today.
Starting order for Sundays 30-minute SCCA Pro Racing Barber Dodge Pro Series Round 3 at Texas World Speedway, a 1.92 mile, eight-turn combination road course and oval.
