Team Prepares for Prescott Rally by Racing in Colorado
Thousand Oaks, CA. The Widget Rally Team announced that it has submitted its entry to the Colorado Cog Rally for Sep 23rd/24th 2006. It'll be the third time the team has competed in the Steamboat Springs-based event, but the first for driver Brian Scott and Techsport Racing Technology, the shop where the team's Subaru WRX STi was built and prepared.
Originally the team planned to race at a conflicting event, but changed their minds after their successful run at Rally Tennessee, where they finished on the podium. "We've been asked why we switched our schedule to include Cog," explained Brian Scott, driver for the Widget Rally Team.
"With the Prescott Rally fast approaching [7-8 Oct 2006] we decided that the Colorado roads more closely match those of the Arizona race. Both events run at high altitude and the character of the roads is very similar, so we decided it was a better fit. In addition, John is familiar with the Cog stages, having codriven to a pair of podium finishes."
"These roads have a full mix of challenges to them," noted the codriver. "There are sections that are incredibly fast, then suddenly they change up and become twisty, slippy, and full of gotchas. Finishing Cog is an accomplishment for any team, and our team hopes to make it three for three." Dillon codrive for Leon Styles for the overall victory in 2004, and for Lauchlin O'Sullivan in 2005, where they finished on the podium in third place.
"I'm really looking forward to my first rally in the hills around Steamboat Springs," said Scott. "It's more like my home element and I think we can do well."
