Road America and New Jersey Motorsports Park Announced for Revised MX-5 Cup Schedule
TOPEKA, Kan. (April 4, 2008) -- The revised 2008 SCCA Pro Racing Playboy Mazda MX-5 Cup schedule is now complete with the additions of Road America and New Jersey Motorsports Park.
Following the consolidation of the Indy Racing League and the Champ Car World Series calendars, two venues, the Houston Grand Prix and Grand Prix of Cleveland were cancelled, leaving two holes in the 2008 MX-5 Cup schedule. After rigorously evaluating several options, SCCA Pro Racing and Mazda North America are happy to announce that events at Road America, in Elkhart Lake, Wis., and New Jersey Motorsports Park, in Millville, N.J., will fill those vacated spots.
"We couldn't be happier with how this schedule came together," SCCA Pro Racing President & CEO Bob Wildberger said. "SCCA Pro Racing and Mazda worked hard to ensure the schedule was filled with quality events. I hope our teams agree that it was worth the wait and I'd like to thank them all for their patience."
MX-5 Cup will join the American Le Mans Series and SCCA Pro Racing SPEED World Challenge, Aug. 8 - 10, at Road America for the Road Race Showcase. The historic four-mile road course was absent from the series' schedule last year, but served as host for the 2006 season finale.
The recently constructed New Jersey Motorsports Park becomes the only new venue for MX-5 Cup in 2008. The facility's 2.25-mile Thunderbolt Raceway will host the series' penultimate round, Sept. 26 -- 28. MX-5 Cup will share the bill with SCCA SPEED GT and the ARCA RE/MAX series.
