RACE: 12 Hours at the Point entry forms announced

Kumho Tire 12 Hours at the Point Entry Forms Available

January 13, 2004: The Washington DC Region of the Sports Car Club of America announced today that entry forms for the 6th Annual Kumho Tires 12 Hours at the Point were available at www.12hoursatthepoint.org. The event, the longest perennial endurance race sanctioned by the SCCA takes place June 4-5, 2004 at Summit Point Raceway in Summit Point, West Virginia. Only two days remain before the Region will accept entries and it is expected that the field will fill quickly.

The race has become a favorite among grassroots endurance racers across the U.S. and has begun to attract interest from not only professional racers, but also has garnered the attention of national media outlets. The 2001 Kumho Tires 12 Hours at the Point was the subject of a 60-minute Aurora Films documentary broadcast on The SPEED Channel this past fall.

"We are expecting a deluge of entries starting in a few days," said one Region official. Typically, the 12 Hours at the Point field fills only a few weeks after entries are accepted. The official was optimistic that this year's race would be no different -- "I would not be surprised if the field was filled by early February."

With its unusually high level of exposure for an amateur endurance race, the Kumho Tires 12 Hours at the Point has attracted a record number of contingency sponsors. "The support we've received from our sponsors has been heart warming. I cannot begin to tell you how much their support means to us."
