Evans Scores Win Number Two At Summit Point National
Former karter, current Spec Racer Ford driver, Nick Evans, 17, scored his second career SCCA national win this past weekend at the Summit Point Motorsports Park. Driving the Jay Motorsports prepared #56 SRF; Evans qualified in position six after a pair of rain stricken sessions on Saturday. The rain cleared for a beautiful Sunday morning to see Evans climb through the field eventually finishing first, 1.764 seconds ahead of second place driver Adam Burrows. Evans stole the lead from pole sitter Mike Amy on lap 19 of the 23-lap event and stayed there for the remainder of the race.
"I am quite pleased to start the season with a win and to collect twelve very valuable points," said the Hilliard, Ohio native. "It is important to be competitive right from the start and with the problems we have had in the past it is nice to have a strong finish in the season opener."
Evans picked up the win only weeks after signing with the Hazardous-Sports support team. "It's great to win my first event as a support team member," stated Evans. For more information on Hazardous-Sports, a leading name in high performance clothing, visit www.hazardous-sports.com
"I look forward to my next race at Gingerman and I am excited for the future as it looks promising," said Evans. He will compete in a number of SCCA National events in 2006 and is sure to be a contender for the SCCA National Championship Runoffs in October.
