SCCA Solo Tour to Celebrate Holiday Weekend in Peru

TOPEKA, Kan. (July 1, 2004) -- There will be some fiercely independent driving on display at the Grissom Aeroplex in Peru, Ind., this holiday weekend as The Tire Rack® SCCA Solo National Tour makes its next-to-last stop of 2004.

While the distinction is generally reserved for collegiate athletes, that doesn't mean there won't be several "All-Americans" displaying their talents as more than 350 men and women are entered in the event.

Perennial favorite Mark Daddio, of Beacon Falls, Conn., will once again pilot the D Stock Grassroots Motorsports/Hoosier 2004 Dodge SRT-4, and Jerry Onks, of Smyrna, Tenn., will drive his Eckler's/VetteSport/RAFT 2002 Chevrolet Z06 in the Super Stock class.

Other competitors, from places like Libertyville, Ill.; Liberty Township, Ohio; and Hollidaysburg, Pa., are certain to put on a sparkling display of technical driving in every one of the five heats scheduled for both Friday and Saturday.

Car makes and models from all over the world will once again be shown, but many competitors will be in American cars as well. The entire F Stock class, 11 in all, will show its national pride all weekend long as every car in the class is a Ford, Chevrolet or Pontiac.

The men and women competing in the C Prepared and C Prepared Ladies classes (19 in all), have entered either a Ford or Chevrolet also.

Both Saturday's and Sunday's action is scheduled to start at 8 a.m. (EDT), with an awards presentation to follow the completion of Sunday's runs. The approximate time for the ceremony is 4:30 p.m. (EDT).
