The Fly Rounds Up Easter With A Podium

Ian 'The Fly' Lewis was on his game over the Easter long weekend as his fantastic end of season consistency continued with a second place finish on the final night at Warrnambool.

The Easter Sprintcar Trail began on Good Friday at Avalon Raceway, where Lewis moved forward in both heat races to record second and fourth place respectively.

The twenty-five lap feature race saw 'The Fly' come out of eighth position, where he made his way forward into a relatively unchanged lead group of cars to finish the race in a credible sixth position.

Mount Gambier's Borderline Raceway played host to the second night of the three-day event, where Lewis' brake line came off the Komatsu Used Equipment, Adtrans, Camden Neon Signs, J&J Auto Racing car, resulting in an eighth place finish in the first heat.

After the team made repairs, 'The Fly' went out to rectify the night and drove commandingly from third place to take out his second heat race with a win.

A misunderstanding with the points saw Lewis line up fifth in the B-Main where he drove into second to make the transfer into the feature race.

Despite starting dead last in the A-Main, Lewis battled hard to pass half the field over the course of the race and finished a consistent eighth to turn a difficult night around.

"The car was obviously very good by the amount of cars we passed. It's just a pity we couldn't see how we really compared against the field after the brake line problem," explained 'The Fly'.

The fast paced Premier Speedway in Warrnambool was the venue for the final night of the Easter Trail on Sunday, where 'The Fly' was on fire straight out of the truck.

Lewis drove his lightening quick Komatsu Used Equipment, Adtrans, Camden Neon Signs, J&J Auto Racing car intelligently to record a second place finish in heat one after starting seventh while taking out the honours in heat two after coming from fourth. The two fantastic heat results earned 'The Fly' pole position in the A-Main race.

Lewis won the start of the A-Main and led the way for the sixteen-car field up until seven laps remaining when dealing with lapped traffic.

Lewis was unfortunate when a lapped car tagged the back of the #V18 and pushed 'The Fly' up the speedway and allowed none other than Max Dumesny to sneak past and slot Lewis back to second.

Despite the car's pace, 'The Fly' was unable to retake the lead and still finished a superb second by the finish with Dumesny later saying that he did not feel he was going to be able to catch Lewis.

"What a great result! The season definitely started with the lowest of lows but there is no doubt the team has turned this season around to head positively into our final race of the season and into next season."

With only one race left on the calendar for Ian Lewis Racing on April 16 at Moama's Heartland Raceway, the consistent season end still sees the past nine races all resulting in a top ten finish with the added bonus of two podium positions.
