Pobst and Kleinubing lead Trois-Rivieres SPEED practice.

CANADA (August 2, 2002) -Randy Pobst, of Gainesville, Ga., and Pierre Kleinubing, of Erexim, Brazil, posted the fastest times during the SPEED World Challenge GT and Touring Car Championship practice sessions at Le Grand Prix Trois-Rivieres, respectively.

The initial 20-minute SPEED GT practice session began following a brief shower. As the track quickly dried, Pobst attacked the challenging 1.521-mile street circuit. Driving the No. 22 1st Interstate Inn/3R Racing Porsche 911 Cup, Pobst posted a quick lap of 1:12.055 (75.992 mph). Immediately following the SPEED GT session, the SPEED Touring Car's took to the track for their 20-minute practice session. With 39 cars entered, the key was to find open track to post a quick lap. Midway through the session, Kleinubing, in the No. 1 Real Time Racing Acura Integra R, posted a fast lap of 1:17.931 (73.011 mph). This time remained the fastest throughout the session.

Following a break of over four hours, the series took to the track for their second practice session. In SPEED GT, many drivers used the increase rubber on the track to better their times, but no one was able to better Pobst's time from the earlier session. In Touring Car, the times dropped significantly, with Kleinubing once again posting the fastest time, with a time of 1:17.190 (70.936 mph).

The SPEED World Challenge GT and Touring Car Championships resume Saturday morning, with two 20-minute Woody's Ice qualifying sessions for Sunday's races.
