Clinton Township, Mich. - Following a tough Detroit race, Cinjo Racing and driver Tommy Archer have regrouped for Cleveland. The team is ready to take on the challenges of the Burke Lakefront Airport Circuit for round five of the Trans-Am Series for the BF Goodrich Cup.
The axle failure in Detroit showed the resolve of the Cinjo Team. "We could have thrown our hands in the air and said we had a bad day. But the crew ran back to the truck to get our spare axle and changed it in the pit lane.
This allowed Tommy to go back out and complete the race and score eight valuable championship points. It was a character builder and a good lesson in looking towards the championship," said Joe Tranchida, owner Cinjo Racing.
Archer sits in fifth place in points with 82, just 21 behind leader Johnny Miller.
The 2.1-mile, 9-turn Cleveland temporary airport circuit should be a good track for the Viper and Archer. "I am looking forward to having a chance to bounce back from what happened in Detroit. I think we were robbed by the axle failure; our team is better than that result. I raced at Cleveland in '93 and '94, with a best finish of fourth. The Viper should like the long fast turns. I don't think it's a horsepower track as much as it is handling.
It can be tricky because you're switching from left to right at very high speeds." <pre> The Cleveland race will be televised on CBS on July 1 at 3:30 p.m. EST.
