FIX WINS GT-1 CLASS AT CLEVELAND'S TRANS-AM ON THE TARMAC
CLEVELAND (June 25, 2005) -- Paul Fix made his first 2005 Trans-Am start count as the driver of the No. 77 StopFlex/Buca di Beppo Ford Mustang won the GT-1 portion of the Trans-Am on the Tarmac at Burke Lakefront Airport Saturday. The Lancaster, N.Y. resident earned his second GT-1 victory, and moved to second in the GT-1 Championship.
"We knew if we had a fairly good starting position that the race would come to us," said Fix. "The car was very consistent through the end. I knew I could outlast some of my competitors. Amy (Ruman) put up a good fight, but I took advantage of her misfortune and went from there.
Fix plans to compete in five races this year, eyeing the GT-1 title.
"Our goal is to win the GT-1 Championship this year," said Fix, "and this is just the first step in that direction."
The GT-1 Development Program recognizes the highest-finishing GT-1 competitor at each 2005 event during winner's circle festivities. The top-finishing GT-1 driver will also be invited to take part in post-race media interviews, and, when possible, will participate in television interviews. As in years past, the highest finishing GT-1 competitor in final driver points will also be honored as the GT-1 Champion. GT-1 competitors are still eligible for regular Trans-Am championship points, contingency monies and race awards.
