Denver: GT-1 Class race notes

PAUL FIX NETS THIRD GT-1 TRANS-AM VICTORY AT CYTOMAX SPORT DRINK 100

DENVER (Aug. 13, 2005) -- Paul Fix won the GT-1 portion of Saturday's Cytomax Sport Drink 100 Trans-Am race at the CENTRIX Financial Grand Prix of Denver presented by PacifiCare. Driving the No. 77 Stop Flex/Buca di Beppo/Hotel Monaco/Pennzoil Ford Mustang, Fix finished ninth overall in the event and earned his third GT-1 crown this season.

Fix spun on lap 48 due to a broken gearbox. He continued and nursed his car home to secure the GT-1 crown.

"It was a very frustrating race," said Fix. "I was dogging Mike Davis the entire way. I think I had a faster car, but with 15 minutes to go, coming out of the pit straight, I lost second gear. The car spun. This was like dejà vu here at Denver. Last year, the transmission broke and we won GT-1. It was the same thing this week. Our goal is to go all the way to Montreal and finish as the GT-1 champion.

"Obviously, finishing ninth wasn't on my game plan," added Fix. "We'll take this win on to Road America, which is one of my favorite tracks."

The GT-1 Driver Development Program features Trans-Am-specification cars, but is reserved for up-and-coming teams from SCCA Club Racing's GT-1 division. The GT-1 Class winner is honored at each race this season, and features its own championship.
