San Jose: Final practice notes

PICKETT FASTEST IN FINAL TRANS-AM PRACTICE AT SAN JOSE

SAN JOSE, Calif. (July 30, 2005) -- 1978 Trans-Am Drivers' Champion Greg Pickett set the fastest time in final practice Saturday morning at the Grand Prix of San Jose. Pickett, who won the most recent Trans-Am race at Edmonton, turned the 1.448-mile temporary course, which was slightly modified this morning, in one minute, 7.382 seconds (77.362 miles per hour).

German rookie Klaus Graf was second fastest in the No. 7 Jaguar R Performance XKR, ahead of yesterday's pole winner Boris Said (No. 33 ACS Express Ford Mustang). Tomy Drissi (No. 5 Four Brothers -- The Movie Jaguar XKR) and Joey Scarallo (No. 06 Group A Wheels/Auto Trend/Toyo Tires Chevrolet Corvette) rounded out the top five.

Pickett, from Alamo, Calif., is debuting a new engine package this weekend in his Jaguar that comprises a 311-cubic-inch engine with Bosch electronic fuel injection.

The Cytomax Sport Drink, Round 6 of the 2005 Trans-Am Championship and part of the Grand Prix of San Jose weekend, is scheduled for this afternoon at 4 p.m. PDT. Today's race will air on a tape-delayed basis, Sunday, Aug. 7 at 1 p.m. EDT on SPEED Channel.

The Cytomax Sport Drink 100 is scheduled to start at 4 p.m. PDT today. The race will air on Sunday, Aug. 7 at 1 p.m. on SPEED Channel.
