2007 Wednesday Night Thunder schedule announced

2007 "WEDNESDAY NIGHT THUNDER" ENCOMPASSES 5 TRACKS IN 4 STATES

The 2007 USAC "Wednesday Night Thunder" slate released today contains 67 feature events comprising 24 nights of racing in Indiana, Illinois, Michigan and Wisconsin.

Tracks involved at present include Mount Lawn Speedway in New Castle, Ind., Plymouth (Ind.) Speedway, Grundy County Speedway in Morris, Ill., Madison International Speedway in Oregon, Wisc. and Berlin Raceway in Marne, Mich.

A pair of test and tune sessions kick off the activity April 15 and 22 at New Castle and the competition begins April 25 at the 3/10-mile Mount Lawn oval. Programs range from Regional Midget, Indiana Ford Focus Midget and Kenyon Midget "tripleheaders" to Regional/Focus "doubleheaders" to the Regional Midget stand alone finale at Berlin Raceway.

As in 2006, the Wolverine Outlaw Winged Midget Series (WOWMS) and United Midget Auto Racing Association (UMARA) are again involved in numerous Regional Midget co-sanctions with USAC and several of the Ford Focus races will offer additional Midwest Pavement Series points.

New to the series in 2007 will be the 3/8-mile Plymouth (Ind.) Speedway where Bob Blunk is the track owner. Bob's brother was long-time USAC National Midget Steward Jim Blunk, who passed away in 1971. Jim's dedication to USAC is remembered each year at the USAC National Awards Dinner in the presentation of USAC's coveted Jim Blunk Award for contributions to the sport of Midget auto racing.

"We had a pretty successful and productive year in 2006," said Wednesday Night Thunder organizer Don Kenyon. "This year should be better and the Plymouth track will offer a new challenge for the competitors."

USAC Regional Series Coordinator Eric Bunn echoed Kenyon's enthusiasm and added "There are some truly talented drivers in this series and they continue to get better each race. It spells nothing but promise for USAC's future and it's great to see these series flourishing."
