Yeley leads sprints to 2nd "Buckeye Nationals".
J.J. Yeley of Phoenix, Ariz. will lead the USAC National Sprint Car Series into this week's 2nd Mopar "Buckeye Nationals" events in Ohio, featuring four back-to-back Sprint/Midget Car "doubleheaders" at four different tracks Wednesday through Saturday.
Yeley holds an 81-point lead over defending series champion Tracy Hines going into Wednesday night's race at Attica Raceway Park. Thursday night's venue is the New Fremont Speedway in Fremont, while Friday night's races are at Limaland Motorsports Park in Lima and Saturday night's finales are at the Eldora Speedway in Rossburg.
Thirty-lap feature events are scheduled at each track for each series. The timetable for Wednesday through Friday events has practice at 6 pm, qualifying at 6:30 and racing at 7:30, while Saturday's Eldora schedule has practice at 6:30, qualifying at 7 and racing at 8.
Yeley continues to chase the all-time single-season USAC feature victory record of 19 set in 1961 by A.J. Foyt and tied in 1988 by Sleepy Tripp and 2001 by Jay Drake. Yeley has 12 USAC victories so far this season, including four in the Sprint Cars.
Last year's inaugural "Buckeye Nationals" featured Sprint Car wins at Fremont and Lima by Yeley, who has his sights set on a record of 15 USAC wins by July 16, set by Tripp in 1988.
