MIDGETS GEARING UP FOR "NIGHT BEFORE THE 500" MAY 23; HAGEN TAKES "JEGS CROWN" & POINT LEAD; ANDERSON "WEATHERED OUT"
Darren Hagen of Riverside, Calif. will sit tight on his 39-point lead in the USAC Mopar National Midget Series standings as the series now gears up for one of its most prestigious events -- the annual "Night Before the 500" Classic, May 23 at O'Reilly Raceway Park in Indianapolis, Ind.
Hagen led all 40 laps to win Saturday nights "JEGS Crown" Midget Super Nationals at the Columbus Motor Speedway, piloting the RFMS Racing Liberty Village/McGladrey & Pullen Beast/Esslinger Ford to the win.
Projected cold and inclement weather forced postponement of Sunday's scheduled race at Anderson, Ind. Track and USAC officials are discussing possible rescheduling of the 100-lap Midget race and accompanying USAC Kenyon Midget Car Series race.
Caleb Armstrong, Cole Whitt, Dakoda Armstrong and Jerry Coons Jr, rounded out the "top-5" at Columbus, while Bobby East moved into second in the standings with his sixth-place finish.
