Skoglund Increases California Pavement Focus Lead With Win; Hayes Earns First Triumph

INDIANAPOLIS - Tim Skoglund increased his lead in the USAC California Ford Focus Pavement Midget Car Series point standings over the extended weekend, thanks in part to a fourth straight victory and a second-place finish in the two races held.

Skoglund was the third and final leader in Saturday's race at Altamont Raceway Park in Tracy, Calif., leading the final 13 laps after getting by Michael Faccinto. Paul Zimmerly, Jace Meier, Laura Hayes and Levi Roberts -who led the first seven laps - rounded out the Top 5. Faccinto also led five laps.

The point leader then finished second to Hayes on Monday at Madera (Calif.) Speedway in the "Trigueiro Classic," who won her first career USAC Ford Focus feature. Hayes took command from Ian Miille on Lap 16 of 40 and was never headed, besting Skoglund, Zimmerly, Faccinto and Daniel Bedford.

The next Pavement race is scheduled Sept. 23 at Irwindale Speedway.

Bobby Michnowicz leads the Dirt division into the next California Ford Focus race, which is scheduled for Sept. 16 at Bakersfield (Calif.) Speedway.
