FF: Weekend racing summary 2004-09-27

Tate Martz of Rushville, Ind. became USAC's second Ford Focus driving champion of 2004 Saturday night, emerging from the series finale at Lakeville, Ohio with a 40-point cushion over Rex Norris III. Martz joins Brice Kenyon as 2004 USAC Champs, Kenyon winning the 2004 Blossom Chevrolet Indianapolis Speedrome title.

Norris won Saturday night's 25-lap finale at the Lakeville Speedway, leading wire-to-wire in his Rex Norris Company/OFI RS Restraint Beast. Kenyon finished second ahead of Jimmy Light, Brad Loyet and Willie Magrell, while Martz was seventh.

Chase Scott of Concord, N.C. extended his Carolina/Virginia Ford Focus point lead over Michael Ward to 97 points, winning Saturday night's 35-lapper at the Anderson (S.C.) Speedway. Sam Beam finished second ahead of Ward, Michael Sboro and 2003 Indiana Focus Champ Robbie Ray. Brit Andersen led the first eight laps and Sboro led the next six before Scott took over for good on lap 15 in his J & L Industrial Supply/2 Quick Shocks Beast. The Carolina/Virginia series resumes October 23 at South Boston, Va.

Bobby Michnowicz of Harbor City, Calif. led all 20 laps of Saturday night's California South feature at the Ventura (Calif.) Raceway in his Timeless Enterprises/Torco Racing TCR. South Series point leader Chris Rahe finished second ahead of Rob Kershaw, Bradley Galedrige and Ryan Pace. The next California Ford Focus race is slated Oct. 9 at Perris (Calif.) Auto Speedway.
