Tim Barber of San Francisco, Calif. captured Saturday night's 40-lap Valvoline/USAC Western Sprint Car race at the Stockton (Calif.) 99 Speedway, leading the final 38 laps in his Bos Sheet Metal Eagle/Chevy.
Barber, USAC's 2000 Russell Pro Triple Crown Champion, passed Greg Anderson on lap three and led the rest of the way to beat Tony Hunt, Brad Bumgarner, Mike Murgoitio and Brian McClish.
Hunt's finish propelled him back into the series point lead entering this Saturday night's race at Rocky Mountain Raceways in Salt Lake City, Utah. Michael Lewis, with whom Hunt has been battling for the 2004 title, finished sixth at Stockton and now trails Hunt by seven points going into the Salt Lake City race, which concludes the 2004 Port O'Call Rocky Mountain Sprint Car Series at the 3/8-mile paved oval. A 40-lap feature is scheduled.
