BEACH, MARTZ, CLAUSON TOP "VOGLER CLASSIC" NIGHT
Teddy Beach of Donnelsville, Ohio and Tate Martz of Rushville, Ind. secured Thursday their first USAC Speedrome "Thursday Night Thunder" series wins while Bryan Clauson of Noblesville, Ind. scored his second victory of the year at the Blossom Chevrolet Indianapolis Speedrome.
Beach, who honed his midget skills on the 1/5-mile oval before moving to the USAC National Midget Car Series, topped the National/Regional field in the 100-lap "Vogler Classic," taking the lead from Michael Lewis on Lap 43 in the No. 125 Beach Manufacturing/Fram Beast/Mopar. From there, he had to hold off charging pavement specialist Dave Steele for his second straight win in the event. Following Steele at the checkered flags were Bobby East, Billy Wease and Josh Wise. Despite a 16th-place finish in the feature, in part by a flat tire midway through the race, Brad Kuhn continues to lead East by 15 in the Regional points standings.
Martz's wire-to-wire 50-lap Ford Focus victory was his first in "Thursday Night Thunder" competition, and it came in front of another Focus points leader -- Jamie Williams. Williams, who leads the Speedrome Focus points standings, challenged Martz for most of the second half of the race but was unable to pass the defending Midwest champion. Williams' efforts landed him second, ahead of Stephanie Mockler, Jon Randall and James Robertson. Williams now leads Mockler by 21 points in the Speedrome standings. Martz's win came in the No. 1 Duffy/Warble Beast/Ford Focus.
Clauson notched his second USAC Kenyon Midget Car Series victory in three races with a dominating victory. Leading the final 41 laps after bolting past Jacob Wilson, Clauson -- driving the No. 7c Armstrong Farms/Bunge North America Kenyon/Yamaha -- extended his points lead to 15 over second week winner Jonathan Hendrick. Defending series champion Dakoda Armstrong, Wilson, Hendrick and Brent Beauchamp locked up the rest of the Top 5.
