ALTAMONT NEXT UP FOR WESTERN SPRINTS MAY 13
SWANSON TAKES MADERA 50-LAPPER
Tony Hunt of Fair Oaks, Calif. leads the USAC Western Sprint Car Series to its May 13 race at Altamont Motorsports Park in Tracy, Calif. in search of a third series championship. Hunt won the 2001 and 2004 titles and holds a three-point lead over Nick Rescino Jr. in the current points.
Rescino will also lead a contingent of California Asphalt Sprintcar Association drivers into the USAC/CASA co-sanctioned event. Rescino is the defending CASA titlist.
Defending USAC Western Sprint Car Champion Kody Swanson of Kingsburg, Calif. returned to the winners circle Saturday night, piloting his TK Motorsports machine to victory in the 50-lap USAC/CASA feature at the Madera (Calif.) Speedway. Rescino led the first 17 laps before Swanson took command. Rescino finished second ahead of Hunt, Nick Green and Brian McClish. Swanson's finish left him fourth in the new standings, behind third-ranking Mike Murgoitio, who was Saturday's fastest qualifier.
