WS: Meridian race summary 2004-08-29

Mike Murgoitio of Meridian, Idaho and Greg Anderson of Roseville, Calif. recorded their initial USAC Western Sprint Car feature victories at Meridian Speedway near Boise, Idaho last weekend, but little was resolved regarding the battle for the 2004 series championship.

Defending titlist Michael Lewis of Noblesville, Ind., finished sixth and second in the two races and leads former series champ Tony Hunt of Fair Oaks, Calif. by nine points going into this Saturday night's event at the Stockton (Calif.) 99 Speedway. A 40-lap feature is on tap at the 1/4-mile paved oval. Hunt finished second and fifth in the two Boise races.

Murgoitio led all 40 laps of Friday night's race in his K.L. Evans Bank/GM Land & Cattle Eagle/Chevy. Hunt finished second ahead of Robert Beck, Brad Bumgarner and Tim Barber. Anderson then led all 50 laps of Saturday night's race in his Anderson Racing Eagle/Chevy to beat Lewis, Kenny Hamilton, Brian McClish and Hunt.

Lewis, who posted fastest qualifying time for both nights of racing at Boise, won last year's 40-lapper at Stockton, while Hunt finished fifth.
