Barber Wins Shasta Western Sprint Debut
Series "Off" Until June 12 At Tucson
Tim Barber of San Francisco, Calif. led the final 27 laps of Saturday night's 40-lap feature to record his initial USAC Western Sprint Car victory at Shasta Speedway in Anderson, Calif. The race was the first for the series at the recently extended and refurbished 1/3-mile paved oval.
Barber and his Bos Sheet Metal Eagle/Chevy passed Shauna Hogg to secure the win over Hogg, Brad Bumgarner, Michael Trimble and Brian McClish. Fast qualifier Tony Hunt broke a rear end early in the feature and trails new series point leader Bumgarner by seven points going into a June 12 race at Tucson, Ariz.
Barber, the 2000 Russell Pro Triple Crown Champion, ranks sixth in the new series points.
