The iconic camera-maker Hasselblad has become official photography partner to Aston Martin Racing. The Swedish brand joins the team as it takes on the 2014 FIA World Endurance Championship and embarks upon its fourth Aston Martin GT4 Challenge season.
Hasselblad is renowned for its premium camera equipment used by the industry’s top professionals. To help launch its new range of digital SLR products aimed at photography enthusiasts, the manufacturer has linked up with Aston Martin Racing, which shares its ethos towards excellence.
The collaboration will not only see Aston Martin Racing’s team photographer use the innovative equipment out on track but the engineering team will use the latest HV camera to gather vital data from the pits.
“A race can be won or lost on a pitstop decision following an incident,” comments Dan Sayers Chief, Engineer at Aston Martin Racing. “When the car passes the pit straight at up to 100mph, it’s impossible for us to see the extent of the damage with the naked eye. We therefore have to bring the car in to the pits to check. However, Hasselblad can provide a camera that can take a series of high-speed images, which can be fed straight back to the engineering team for observation.
“We can also use the cameras to collect data for development purposes and we can use the film functions to record and play back pit stops so we can see areas of improvement.”
Hasselblad recently launched their mirrorless Lunar camera with five different grip styles, all handcrafted from the most luxurious materials including carbon fibre, then followed up with their compact camera, Stellar, which also comes in several different styles. Their latest model, the HV DSLR, aimed at photo-enthusiasts delivers on both looks and performance, perfect for any motorsport enthusiast.
Hasselblad branding will feature on all four of the V8 Vantage GTEs as they take on the WEC, which includes the world-famous 24 Hours of Le Mans. The partnership also extends to the Aston Martin GT4 Challenge, where Hasselblad products will be available for entrants to test during the race weekend.
