Audi five laps ahead

Entering the final four hours of Le Mans 24 hours, Audi driver Marco Werner had opened up a five lap lead over the second-placed Peugeot, the #7 of Jacques Villeneuve, who was in turn two laps ahead of the #8 Peugeot of Stephane Sarrazin.

The #31 Team Binnie Motorsports Lola-Zytek B05-40 of Bill Binnie had a comfortable 18-lap lead in the LMP2 category because the closest challenger, Karim Ojjeh, driving the #32 Team Barazi Epsilon Zytek 07S/2, had run wide at the final corner, spun round and hit the pit wall backwards causing heavy damage to the back of the car, thus losing second place in the category.

Darren Turner in the #009 Team Aston Martin Racing DBR9 had opened up a one-lap lead over the #63 Team Corvette Racing C6-R of Johnny O'Connell, which had a pair of Aston Martins, the #008 AMR Larbre Competition Aston Martin and the #007 Team Aston Martin, right behind it. The #007, driven by Tomas Enge, picked up a left-front puncture and had a massive spin through a gravel trip before touring back to the pits.

The #76 Imsa Performancec Matmut Porsche 911 GT3 RSR of Patrick Long continued in the lead of the LMGT2 category with a five-lap advantage over the #99 Risi Competizione Ferrari 430 GT of Niclas Jonsson, Tracy Krohn and Colin Braun
