Le Mans, France, Audi Sport Team Joest jumped into action seven hours into the race to change the rearend of the number nine car.
Having dropped off of the pace, Laurent Aiello pitted the car for refueling and tires when the team decided to change the gearbox. Team Joest changed the entire rearend of the car in less than five minutes. Allan McNish then took over the driving duties.
With a lap to make up on his teammates, McNish set fast lap of the race with a 3:37.996.
"Everything is going according to plan. Michele Alboreto is leading the charge and Allan McNish is really driving to make up the time from the pit stop when we changed the gearbox," said Len Hunt, head of Audi Sport North America.
Currently leading is Michele Alboreto in the number seven Audi. Emanuele Pirro in the number eight car is second, one minute and twenty-two seconds behind, followed by Allan McNish one lap down, but the fastest car on the track
