May 24 Eckerd Outlaw Showdown Writes Prescription For the Return of WoO Sprint Cars to The Dirt Track
CONCORD, N.C. (April 24, 2006) - The winged warriors of the World of Outlaws Sprint Series will return to The Dirt Track @ Lowe's Motor Speedway Wednesday night, May 24, for the Eckerd Outlaw Showdown.
The event, which kicks off Coca-Cola 600 Week, is a homecoming of sorts as the nomadic sprint car series ran 13 races at The Dirt Track during the facility's first four seasons, the last coming on May 24, 2003.
"The most asked question by our short-track fans has been 'when are the Outlaws coming back to The Dirt Track?'" said H.A. "Humpy" Wheeler, president and general manager of Lowe's Motor Speedway. "And we finally have an answer-Wednesday night, May 24.
"A lot has changed in the world of sprint car racing since we last hosted the World of Outlaws sprint cars, but the intense, edge-of-your seat racing remains the same," Wheeler added.
Three-time World of Outlaws champion Sammy Swindell, who won the inaugural race at The Dirt Track on May 25, 2000, is expected to be among those chasing the $10,000 first prize. The field will also include series point leader Donny Schatz and veteran Daryn Pittman, both former World of Outlaws winners at The Dirt Track.
Other World of Outlaws regulars expected to be on hand include Craig Dollansky, Terry McCarl, Jac Haudenschild and Joey Saldana, who drives a car owned by NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series star Kasey Kahne.
The late model stock cars of the Goodyear Fastrak Challenge are also part of the action-packed program.
If purchased in advance, reserved tickets for the May 24 Eckerd Outlaw Showdown are $25 for adults and $10 for children 12 and under. They can be purchased by calling the Lowe's Motor Speedway ticket office at 1-800-455-FANS or online at www.lowesmotorspeedway.com.
