BMW DRIVERS SET THE PACE IN TEST
Through the drizzle the BMW and Chevrolet cars topped the times for the first Estoril test on Friday afternoon. BMW Team Germany drivers Augusto Farfus and Jorg Muller set the fastest times on the damp track.
Farfus was consistently on top as he repeatedly set fastest laps throughout the session, the quickest being 1:47.997. Reigning world champion Andy Priaulx put his BMW Team UK car into third place, followed closely by Chevrolet drivers Alain Menu and Robert Huff.
Local hero Tiago Monteiro was the fastest SEAT Sport driver in sixth over half a second adrift of leader Farfus. James Thompson placed his Honda Accord cars in eighth, while current championship leader Gabriele Tarquini settled in 13th.
Sergio Hernandez set the fastest time for the Independents' class with a lap of 1:49.118 putting him in fourteenth position overall.
Even though the track was damp there were no serious incidents as all the drivers were able to set times except for one: Liqui Moly Team Engstler's Andrey Romanov whose plane was delayed and he could not reach the track in time for the test.
