Edoardo Piscopo score points in Durban

Edoardo Piscopo scored his maiden points finish for Team Italy in the A1 Grand Prix, on the tough South African streetcourse of Durban. Piscopo ended up the second race of the weekend (featuring a longer distance and two mandatory pit-stops) in 8th place, after being forced to start from Row 9; he drove a watchful race, in order to avoid costly mistakes, and progressively managed to recover positions, climbing up to the top-8.

During the closing stages, at lap 43, Edoardo was hit from the Brazilian car driven by Bruno Junqueira. Due to the amount of debris left by the impact, race control decided to red-flag the track, ending the race for good. Since the field was frozen at lap 41, Piscopo was classified in 8th despite the severe damage suffered, reversing the bad fortunes had since the weekend's start. After a crash in the third practice session, the team struggled over qualifying to clinch 16th and 18th place for the two races. On Race 1 (hit by two safety-car periods and also shortened by a red flag), Piscopo took the car fielded by Team Italy up to 15th place.
