Guy Cosmo and Extreme Speed Motorsports Taking It To The Streets
After a successful inaugural run at the 2010 Mobil 1 12 Hours of Sebring, Guy Cosmo and teammate Ed Brown will put the Patron Extreme Speed Motorsports No. 2 Ferrari F430 GT2 car through its paces on the streets of Long Beach for the Tequila Patron American Le Mans Series At Long Beach.
In just its second race, the team will go from competing in the longest race of the year to the shortest. The abbreviated 100 minute format denotes Long Beach as the shortest race on the American Le Mans Series presented by Tequila Patron schedule.
While the Long Beach Grand Prix will be the first time the Extreme Speed Motorsports Ferraris compete on a street course, team owner Scott Sharp is no stranger to North America's longest running street event. He and teammate David Brabham were victorious in 2008 in the Highcroft Patron Acura prototype.
"I'm excited to be heading out west," said Guy Cosmo, "and equally excited to get the rest of the season underway. We're currently sitting 6th in the points standings, so I'm anxious to find a rhythm and score more points toward the championship."
"I've only raced at Long Beach once before," recalled Guy. "It was in 2001 in the Toyota Atlantic Series and I drove for Chuck West's World Speed Motorsports. As I recall, I had a top-10 finish^a and absolutely loved the event. The energy of the city and the people was infectious and the track layout was great. As far as street circuits go, Long Beach is definitely the granddaddy of them all. I can't wait to get the ESM Patron Ferrari on track!"
The team will have their work cut out for them given the compressed schedule. Cars will hit the track for a two-hour practice round at 7:15AM Friday then a short 1/2 hour session at 5PM. Qualifying for the GT teams will be a 20 minute session beginning at 5:40PM.
The 100 minute Tequila Patron American Le Mans Series at Long Beach race will take the green flag at 4:40PM Saturday.
