Michael McDowell continues his assault on the ARCA RE/MAX Series title as he takes the pole position for Sunday's Governor's Cup 200 at the Milwaukee Mile. McDowell picked up one second from where he practiced to beat James Buescher, who will start on the outside of the front row. Several of the top qualifying cars picked up a second or better from their practice times.
Marc Mitchell and the #4 Ergon Dodge team will roll off from the eighth position for tomorrow's event. Mitchell has already competed in a Busch race at Milwaukee in June of this year. He also made the journey up to the track last week for an important test session. It all paid off as Mitchell posted the second fastest time in the practice session.
Mitchell, 23, just was not able to pick up the speed in qualifying that some of his counterparts were able to find. Still, he feels the car that his Cunningham Motorsports prepared for him is one that can find victory lane.
"I still feel like we have a car that can win the race", said Mitchell. "We probably missed a little bit on air pressure because it took too long for the car to come in. But air pressure, I mean, that's minor stuff. And we knew that some guys would put in a different gear for qualifying and other stuff that we weren't going to do. We just didn't want to mess with our car too much because we know it will race well."
