1997 PLAYER'S CHALLENGE FOR THE KOOL/TOYOTA ATLANTIC CHAMPIONSHIP $70,000 Points Fund Announced
HIGHLAND PARK, ILL. (Feb. 5) With the approach of the 1997 Atlantic racing season, long time Atlantic championship sponsor Player's has announced details for the newly created Player's Challenge for the KOOL/Toyota Atlantic Championship. Commencing in 1997, Player's will recognize the efforts of the 15 highest placing Atlantic drivers who earn the most points in the series' Canadian Atlantic events through the Player's Challenge, thus creating a Canadian title within the KOOL/Toyota Atlantic Championship. A total prize fund of $70,000 has been set aside solely for the 1997 Player's Challenge for the KOOL/Toyota Atlantic Championship. The prize fund consists of $60,000, which will be distributed among the top-15 points leaders in the four Canadian Atlantic events run at Montreal, Toronto, Trois-Rivieres, and Vancouver, and includes $10,000 to the winner of the Player's Challenge. An additional $10,000 has been set aside for the top three finishing Canadian drivers competing in Canadian races, and includes $5,000 being awarded to the Canadian driver who scores the most points among fellow Canadian drivers. "The addition of the Player's Challenge for the KOOL/Toyota Atlantic Championship is a tremendous addition to the series," said Vicki O'Connor, president of Pro-Motion Agency Ltd., the company which administers the Atlantic series. "The heritage of Atlantic racing in Canada runs to the very essence of what has helped Canada produce many of the world finest professional race car drivers. The Player's Challenge provides an extra incentive for all Atlantic drivers to place an added emphasis on their racing efforts in Canada." The KOOL/Toyota Atlantic Championship begins its 24th season of competition at the Metro-Dade Homestead Motorsports Complex in the Grand Prix of Miami, presented by Toyota, on March 1, 1997.
