SAM BIRD TOPS TIME TABLES IN FIRST FORMULA 3 TEST

Pembrey, February 20: Sam Bird (20, Claygate) topped the time tables in the first official Formula 3 test in Pembrey, Wales.

The series rookie, twice a finalist in the Mclaren Autosport Young Driver of the Year awards, was comfortable with the outcome of the first day of testing "Carlin Motorsport has prepared a superb car for me, and we worked well with the new tyres so I am quite satisfied with today's results. However, it's only the first test day and there's a long way to go. I'm learning a lot about the car from my engineers and I'm looking forward to tomorrow and the rest of the testing programme."

Sam finished the day almost 4/10sec ahead of his nearest rival, who has a year's experience under his belt.

The testing continues on Wednesday at Pembrey and moves on to Silverstone on March 1. The first race of the season is at Oulton Park on Easter Monday.
