NEWS FROM THE AUTO TRADER RAC TOURING CAR CHAMPIONSHIP 5/2/97 TOCA Limited, organiser of the Auto Trader RAC Touring Car Championship, announces today that all rounds of the championship will not count towards, nor have any bearing on, any FIA Championship, Cup, Challenge, Trophy or similar FIA awards. The inclusion of the following additional paragraph in regulation number 1.1 of the 1997 BTCC Sporting Regulations has been made by TOCA, approved by the RACMSA and has been issued with immediate effect; "The Championship does not constitute any part of any FIA Championship, Challenge, Trophy or Cup or similar or any of their qualifying events. Specifically, rounds of the Championship are not events qualifying for the award of points (or any other award) towards the FIA Touring Car World Cup." Alan Gow, Chief Executive of TOCA Limited stated: "There are several complex reasons why I have made this amendment, none of which I am prepared to make any public comment on. However, I have discussed this matter with both the RACMSA and the manufacturers involved in the BTCC, all of whom fully appreciate the reasoning for doing so."
