Litton aims for first-ever IHRA Top Fuel win at Virginia Motorsports Park

PETERSBURG, Va. - Bruce Litton admittedly wasn't satisfied with his performance during last season's IHRA ACDelco Nationals at Virginia Motorsports Park, located outside of Petersburg, Va. In fact, when the Lucas Oil-sponsored Top Fuel driver analyzes it much closer, he's not exactly enthused about his overall production on the traditional third stop on the twelve-race IHRA Hooters Drag Racing Series. He's hoping for a solid victory during this weekend's 4th annual ACDelco Nationals presented by the Richmond Times-Dispatch.

Don't take Litton the wrong way. He's a very grateful individual and he feels fortunate with a semi-final finish in 2001 and a runner-up with low elapsed time in 2002. Litton is by no stretch of the imagination a greedy person; he just wants to win.

"We really would like to win this weekend to improve our chances on challenging Clay (Millican) for the title," explained Litton. "Our team is working very hard. We are the kind of team that never gives up. Even when the odds may be stacked against us, never count us out. It's never over until it's over."

Litton and his crew led by Mike Wolfarth have shown the kind of resolve over the last few years that champions are made from. Case in point, in 2001, when a fire leveled their Indianapolis-based shop, the talented crew did not miss one single event on the IHRA Hooters Drag Racing Series. In fact, the first time out, Litton finished runner-up.

Fast-forward to 2004, during a semi-final win at the season-opening IHRA Amalie Oil Texas Nationals, Litton suffered a devastating crash that destroyed his racecar. It took ten days for Litton and crew to prepare their 2003 dragster and return it to competition for the next IHRA event in Rockingham.

So why does he have such a never-die attitude?

"It's what Jesus Christ instills in me," Litton added. "When we can suffer tough circumstances like we have and then rebound, it just works as a shining example of what our faith and his compassion can bring forth for us. Faith works miracles."
