Reigning IHRA and Winter Nationals Top Fuel champion upset in round one
BRADENTON, FL-- Reigning IHRA and Winter Nationals Top Fuel champion Paul Romine was upset today in round one of the Prolong Super Lubricants Winter Nationals at DeSoto Memorial Dragway, Bradenton, FL.
The CARQUEST Auto Parts Dragster of Romine lost traction just past the starting line and lost to competitior Wayne Bailey, 5.136 /241.87 to 5.679/234.19.
"It just wasn't our day today," Romine said. "We thought we had a grasp on the track condition, but the car just overpowered it. It's a disappointing loss, but we'll regroup and be ready for Darlington."
The next scheduled IHRA national event, the Southern Nationals, is scheduled May 2-4 at Darlington International Dragway in Darlington, South Carolina.
Romine's loss at the Prolong Super Lubricants Winter Nationalssnaps a three-race IHRA winning streak for the CARQUEST team, dating back to last season.
